TheconferenceaimsatbringingtogetherChineseandSwissexpertsdealingwiththeuseofnaturalresourcesanditseffectsonthesocietyatlargeandontheenvironment.Whiletheefficientuseofnaturalresourcesisessentialtoprovideacountrywithrawmaterialsandtotriggereconomicgrowth,theuseofnaturalresourcesalsoimpactsonpeoplelivingclosetotheresource(possiblyforcedtoresettle),peopleinvolvedintheexploitationoftheresource,theenvironment,theregionandtheeconomyatlarge.Whendecidingwhethernaturalresourcesshouldbeexploitedornot,thesedifferingandoftencontradictoryinterestsneedtobetakenintoaccountandshort-and-long-terminterestsneedtobebalanced.
