Onbehalfofthelocalorganizers,weattheSunYat-senUniversity(SYSU)arepleasedtohostthe13thSocietyofChineseBioscientistsinAmerica(SCBA)InternationalSymposiumtobeheldonJuly25-29,2011,attheBaiyunInternationalConventionCenterinthecityofGuangzhou,China.IwouldliketotakethisopportunitytoextendmywarmestinvitationandwelcometoallSCBAmembersandconferenceattendeestothe“FlowerCity”ofGuangzhou.

ThiswillbethefirsttimeSCBAholdsitsbiennialmeetinginsouthChina.The13thSCBAInternationalSymposiumwillfeatureNobellaureates,membersoftheUSNationalAcademyofSciencesandleadersofawidevarietyoffieldsinbiologicalandbiomedicalsciencesinitsplenarysessionsaswellasapproximately40topic-specificsessions.BioscientistsfromcountriesandregionsofUS,Canada,MainlandChina,HongKong,Taiwan,Australia,Singapore,etc.,willparticipateandcontributetothemeeting.Inadditiontoinvitedspeakers,theProgramCommitteeplanstoselectasubstantialnumberoforalpresentationsfromtheprofferedabstracts.Sowhentheconferencewebsiteissetup(whichwillbesoon),pleasebesuretoregisterandsubmityourabstractsearly.WearelookingforwardtoauniquebiennialSCBAmeetinginthePearlRiverDeltaofsouthChina.

SYSUispleasedandhonoredtobethelocalhostofthisconference.TheUniversitywasfoundedin1924byDr.SunYat-sen(SunZhongshan),agreatdemocraticrevolutionaryleaderofthe20thcentury,andyettheoriginofthemedicalarmofSYSUcanbetracedfarbackto1866,thennamedBoji（博濟）MedicalSchoolandlaterbecomingSunYat-senUniversityofMedicalSciences,whichmergedwithSYSUin2001.Dr.SunYat-senattendedBojiasamedicalstudentbeforehetransferredtoamedicalschoolinHongKong(today’sUniversityofHongKongLiKaShingFacultyofMedicine)andgraduatedthere.SYSUisnowamulti-disciplinary,comprehensive,research-orienteduniversity,withacoverageofdisciplinesofhumanities,socialsciences,naturalsciences,technicalsciences&engineering,andhealthsciences.Asoneoftheleadinguniversitiesinthemainland,SYSUnowhas30,000full-timeundergraduatestudentsand20,000graduatestudents.Biologicalandhealthsciencesrepresenttwoofthestrongestresearchande
