The39thAnnualConferenceofComputerApplicationsandQuantitativeMethodsinArchaeology,"RevivethePast",willbeheldinBeijing,China,April12-16,2011.Theconferenceaimtobringtogetherscholarsfromvariousbackgroundsandcontinents,andtoexploreinnovativetechnologiestohelpusaccess,investigateandvisualizethecultureheritage.
ComputerApplicationsandQuantitativeMethodsinArchaeology(CAA)isaninternationalorganizationbringingtogetherarchaeologists,mathemeticiansandcomputerscientists.Itsaimsaretoencouragecommunicationbetweenthesedisciplines,toprovideasurveyofpresentworkinthefieldandtostimulatediscussionandfutureprogress.
TheCAAconferencestartedasasmallannualconferenceattheUniversityofBirminghamin1973,followedfornearlytwentyyearsbyannuallyorganisedconferencesatBritishuniversities.Conferenceattendanceincreasedsteadilyovertheyears,withdelegatesfrommanyEuropeancountries,NorthandSouthAmerica,Japan,AustraliaandNewZealand.
AtthefirstconferenceheldoutsidetheUK,attheUniversityofAarhusinDenmarkin1992,apolicywasadoptedofmeetinginadifferentcountryeachyear.Atthesametimeitwasdecidedthatnationalchapterscouldbeestablished.CAAUKwasthefirstlocalorganisationin1995,sincefollowedbyCAANL,CAAEs,CAAIt,CAAPortugal,CAAIndia,CAAGermany,CAANA(NorthAmerica)andCAANorway.In2006CAAleftEuropeforthefirsttimeinhistoryandhadaconferenceinFargo(USA).

TheCallforPapersinvitesthesubmissionofabstractsforpapersandposterstobepresentedatthe39thannualCAAconference.TypicalCAAtopicsinclude:agent-basedmodels,bioarchaeology,CIDOCandotherdigitalstandards,databases,3Ddatacaptureandmodeling,datamanagementsystemsandotherfieldapplications,GIS,predictivemodeling,opensourcesoftwareinarchaeology,photogrammetryandimaging,prospectionandremotesensing,quantitativemethods,highprecisionsurveying,virtualmuseums,andvirtualreality.AfterthenowcompletedCallforSessions,RoundTables,andWorkshops,theScientificCommitteeacceptedawiderangeofproposalsforthematicsessions,aswellasworkshopsandroundtables.
Topresentapaperorposter,authorsshouldsubmitanabstractofbetween300and500wordsinlength;shouldclearlyindicatethereasonwhyyourworkisoriginalandsignificant;shouldcontainashortbibliography(ifthereisimportantearlierworktocite);and,forpapers,shouldindicatethesessioninwhichitcouldbeappropriatelypresented.PaperpresenterswillalsoneedtoindicatewhethertheywishtopresentaShortPaper(15minutes)orLongPaper(25minutes).Shortpapersareappropriateforcasestudiesorongoingprojectswhilelongpapersareforpresentinginnovativeapproachesorcompletedprojects.TheScientificCommitteereservestherighttoswitchapaperfromlongtoshortandtoassignittothesessionthatappearsmostappropriate,whichmaynotalwayscorrespondtothesessiontowhichtheauthor(s)applied.
